Senior Summer League - Round 1

June 6, 2024

Round 1 of the Tilden Senior Summer League (SSL) is now complete! It was a glorious mild and sunny day at our beautiful home course.  There were 45 players in the field, the largest yet in recent memory.  Hope everyone that played had fun, made new friends, caught up with old friends, and enjoyed the competition.  And boy, was the competition fierce!  Thirteen players within two strokes of the low net score! Since no one ran away with the tournament this round, Rounds 2 and 3 should be very interesting.  This is still anyone's tournament to win.

The Highlights:

Three players (Mike Armstrong, Mel Varsovia, and Gary Palmer) tied for low net with a net score of 70.  They will each receive $25 Tilden cash.  

Tied for fourth place were four players -- Mark Cisneros, John Gonzales, James Shawn, and Marianne Cernac.  They will each receive $10 Tilden cash.

Mike Armstrong also had low gross for the round with a gross score of 80 and will receive an additional $10 Tilden cash.

Rounds 2 and 3 are currently scheduled to be played on July 11 and August 29, respectively.  Sign-up invitations will arrive in your inbox approximately 2 weeks before the rounds begin.  All members are still qualified to still sign up for Rounds 2 and 3 even if you did not play in Round 1.

Senior Summer League - Round 2

July 11, 2024

Round 2 of the Tilden Senior Summer League (SSL) is now complete! It was a scorcher of a day! Fortunately, no one passed out and we only had 3 withdrawals!  There were 43 players in the field and Biscuit the dog!  A big shout out to Francis Bird, our Social Chair, for taking photos of the playing groups, which are attached just below the complete results table for your viewing pleasure.  

Tournament and Round Highlights:

Top 5 players to date after 2 rounds of league play:

1st - Michael Martinez

2nd - Gary Palmer

3-way tie for 3rd - Jim Diederich, Shawn James, and John Gonzales

Low Net Prizes for Round 2:

1st Place - Michael Martinez - $40

2nd Place - Jennifer Kim - $30

4-way tie for 3rd Place - Jim Diederich, Richard Morris, Rose Duignan, and Gary Palmer - $10 each

Low Gross Prize for Round 2:

2 way tie for 1st - Michael Martinez and Richard Morris - $5 each

Senior Summer League - Round 3

August 29, 2024

We had another outstanding turnout to the 2024 Senior Summer League, Round 3 (SSL #3).  Forty-six members and one guest participated.  After playing three rounds over the summer, Michael Martinez is now crowned the overall winner of the SSL tournament with a combined low net score of 133.  Congratulations Michael!

2nd -Jean Hurricane -134  ($40)

Spring Scramble – May 16, 2024

It was a coldish day with not much sun, but there were lots of good, warm feelings on the teams, lots of things to be thankful for, including just being out playing!  Every team broke net par and there were only 13(net) strokes separating the entire field of 12 teams.  So all played well!  Maybe because of the cold, all the rounds were played in just over four hours.  Kudos to everyone for this too!

Thank all of you who played in this Scramble for a great day!  Reminder: There is a Fall Mixed Scramble run by Touchstone scheduled for October 17.  We are all invited to participate and it has traditionally been a super-fun event.  

Attached just below the photo's are the final results of the tournament.  The team of Smith, Cernac, Gonzales, and Green took first place with a net 55!  Second place was shared by the teams of Charles, Armstrong, Webb, Brown and Morgan, Frank, Bagg, Martin, with a net 57.  Congratulations!

Senior Winter League - 2024

 SWL-2   Thursday, March 21 - The Results

The weather and course conditions for Round 2 were spectacularly different from those "endured" in the blustery rain and soggy ground during Round 1.   Blue skies, warm temps and an almost-dry course.  Here are the Round 2 winners:

1. John Gonzales, net 65     $40

    plus low gross of 79 for    $10

2. Jim Diederich, net 69       $30

3. Jean Huricane, net 70      $20

     Grant Whiting, net 70      $20

The overall Winter League leaderboard after round 2 is posted below the photos.  You can 'derive' Round 2 only results by examining the R2 column.  Note: ALL players are TPSGC members.  The club noted in the report is where each player chooses to keep their handicap with NCGA/USGA.

 SWL-3   Thursday,  April 18 - The Results & Overall Winter League Leaders

It was a beautiful day at Tilden.  Below are the results of the final SWL round as well as the final tabulation of the three Senior Winter League rounds overall. 50 golfers participated, about half finished at least 2 rounds.  Hope the weather will cooperate next year.  Congratulations to John Gonzalez, our 2024 Winter League Champion!
