Vindrizi are symbiotic life forms engineered by an unknown race in the dim past to serve as living recorders, preserving knowledge should civilization fall. By joining with a host they gain the sensory and locomotive functions required to accomplish their mission and in return provide improved health, even healing some afflictions not readily curable by medical technology. Vindrizi in fact tend to seek out those who are ill or destitute, individuals who tend to be viewed as having little to live for and are therefore willing to voluntarily merge with them. (They will not forcibly do so under any circumstances). Upon the death of the host, Vindrizi seek out a new one so that they may continue their mission. It is unknown how many Vindrizi there are across the Thousand Suns or how long they live for and they are apparently incapable of reproduction.
Individuals who have merged with a Vindrizi retain all of their original memories and skills. (Use the PC/NPC’s stats; otherwise the Vindrizi has a TN of 13). A kind of hybrid personality results from the merger with the Vindrizi being slightly more dominant, which makes sense as it allows for the continuation of the purpose for which the artificial species was developed.
Inspiration for this entry comes from the Babylon 5 episode Exogenesis.
