I believe it is essential to a successful school year that strong relationships are created From those relationships I will be able to build learning partnerships with students and their families. In order to best meet my students needs and abilities I first need to get to know them and their families. Parents and carers will be able to get in contact with me via email, phone and face to face in the morning and afternoons. My door will always be open to ensure a two way street of open and honest communication. I am also aware that any communication to parents needs to be done in a way that is prefered to the parent. I can communicate all school correspondence in many ways such as in homework folders, diaries, email and website. I would also like to involve parents and carers in our learning using a parent helper roster.
At the commencement of the year I would like my parents and carers to complete a student information questionnaire. With the information provided this will allow me to understand the student and their family better, as well as how I can best engage them in learning.
Across the school year I will keep my parents and carers up to date with what is happening in our classroom with a weekly newsletter. This will enable families to support their children at home with classroom learning.
Another method I have seen work effectively is a Keep In Touch (KIT) book, where parents, carers and myself can record quick notes about the child that may have an impact on their day..
