I am aware that for the successful running of a classroom and to provide a safe and supportive classroom I need to utilise effective classroom management techniques. I have completed a professional development session on the 'Essential Classroom Management Skills' during my universities professional orientation week. I strongly believe that fostering instrinsic motivation is essential to achieving academic success. However sometimes we all need a little bit of extra motivation. When I incorporate an extrinsic rewards system I ensure that it is based around my students interests. I have utilised classroom raffles, behaviour bracelets, lucky duck students, hole punches, stamps, stickers, smiley box and prizes. I do not believe in clip charts in my classroom as I expect star student behaviour from my students all of the time.
In combination with the school behaviour management plan and school rules I will also have displayed in my classroom my class rules. As I have these already chosen I will role play what these rules look like and take pictures of my students to accompany each rule.
Whilst on my 3rd year practicum the students at the school were loom band crazy! So I designed a reward system using the real money students brough in at the start of the year for maths manipulatives. During the week students earned money for good choices and engagement in lessons, then at the end of the week we counted our money and students were able to go loom band shopping at my shop!!!

My lucky duck jar has a stick with each students name on it. During sessions and/or activities I draw out 2 lucky ducks. During the session/activity I keep my eye on those students, if the lucky ducks have been star students they get 5 high five tickets into the raffle.
My 'High Five' raffle is an idea that I have taken from my own childrens' school. When students are seen being star students they get a high five ticket to go into the weekly raffle. At the end of the week 2 tickets are drawn out and they get to choose from my smiley box.
