The task of identifying the person whose name has been written on a ballot is sometimes difficult! This is especially true in elections spanning a region or a country. TallyJ helps by providing room for lots of extra information, like maiden names, nicknames, area information (eg. sector, city) and any other information that would help distinguish and identify a person. When searching the list for a name, all that information is considered and shown.
This information can be included when names are imported from your source. Or, it can be added and changed during the election process. However, if a name is modified after ballots have been entered, then any ballot where that name shows up must be reviewed and that name re-confirmed. This ensures the validity of the ballot and prevents mistakes where a name is changed to be someone else entirely.
When entering ballots, the search is 'forgiving' so that if "Mary" is typed, then not only will everyone called Mary be shown... but names like "Mehri", "Marya", "Márí", "Anna-Marie", "Tamari" and others will also be displayed! So if a voter has misspelled a person's name, the teller can more easily identify who was meant.
Happy searching!
