“Operation Knock-Out Tigdas” is a door-to-door measles elimination campaign of the Department of Health from October 15 to November 15, 2007. The general objective is to eliminate measles circulation in all communities by 2008. The specific objectives are to reduce the number or pool of children at risk of getting measles or being susceptible to measles and to achieve at least 95% measles immunization coverage of all children born between October 15, 2003 to January 15, 2007.
The target groups are the 9-million children throughout the country who are between 9 months to 48 months old. The primary vaccination strategy was the door-to-door immunization.
Children who were brought by their parents to the Bakuna Centers or Fixed Site (usually the Barangay Health Centers) also were given immunization. Other service given was: Vitamin A supplementation to children 6 months – to 7 months and deworming to children 2 months to 71 months.
Tagbilaran City Host Lions Club joined in the “Operation Knock-Out Tigdas” at Fixed Site Cabawan Health Center last October 1, 2007.The LIONS representing the club were Lions Fely Lim ( a registered nurse), Dra. Velma Lim (a dentist), and Dra. Cyril Tallo (a physician).
The Public Health Midwife assigned at the center was Mrs. Ma. Febreca Polo. There were 137 children who received the anti- measles vaccine and 182 children who were dewormed and at the same time received Vitamin A Supplement.
