Aim: The most important thing to do in my life is honor God with me life.
Numbers 20
Sections:
Principle
Service for God, not done in a way that honors God, is not pleasing to God.
Moses did not honor God when he served Him by striking the rock in verses 8-12. We can learn from Moses' mistake. Follow God's directions very specifically and carefully. And serve God in a way that honors Him. Give Him credit for the work. Obey God's instructions and trust fully in God to follow His commands.
Have enough trust in the Lord to change your nature and live differently, according to the Spirit. Depend on God through prayer, and behave accordingly by following Him at all times. We need to have enough trust in the Lord to have complete obedience! Especially trust in Him when we feel impatient or angry...God is in control at all times!
See Numbers 20:10-11. Moses elevated himself instead of giving the credit to God. It's not about what we do, but what God does through us. Humble ourselves and trust God.
Principle
When I elevate myself, I bring God down.
Questions to think about: Who am I honoring? Who do I want to get noticed, based on my actions?
Edom's refusal
Verses 14-21
Moses has repented from his lack of trust in God. He is now completely following God's instructions. He responds patiently to Edom's refusal and trusts God completely. Going around Edom was not easy.
Question to ponder: When you fail, how quickly do you repent?
Aaron's death
Verses 22-28
Principle: God's grade always overcomes out sins.
Aaron sinned multiple times in his life. Since we are not perfect, we are still going to end up sinning, no matter how hard we try not to, but sin will not rule our lives. God's grace has the final word in our lives. The most important thing in our lives is to believe in and honor God! This washes away our sins and spreads God's grace over us.
