Robert H. Becker, University of Michigan, Theta Theta 1957- Chapter Eternal

Robert H. Becker, 81, of Naples, Florida, passed away on November 15th, 2016. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI in 1935. Robert graduated from East Grand Rapids High School, the University of Michigan, the Financial Public Relations School of Northwestern University, and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He remained an avidly loyal fan of the University of Michigan throughout his lifetime, and remained active with his brothers from the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Robert joined Central Bank, Grand Rapids, MI in 1957, which merged with Michigan National Bank and was named President of Michigan National Central. He became President of Grand Rapids Mutual Federal Savings & Loan Association in 1977, taking the mutual company public in March, 1984 and renaming the bank to Metro Bank. Metro Bank was acquired by Comerica in 1987 and he progressed to President of Capitol Federal Savings & Loan Association, Lansing, MI taking it public and renaming the institution Community First Bank. Community First Bank was acquired by Old Kent Bank in 1999 when he retired. Robert also served as President of the Grand Rapids JCs, Chairman of the Board of Mary Free Bed, President of the U of M Club in Grand Rapids, Director of Family Service Association in Grand Rapids, Director of the Peninsular Club in Grand Rapids, active with the United Way of Kent County, Chairman of the Michigan League of Savings Institutions, Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank at Indianapolis and served as the Board of Directors of the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce in Lansing, MI. In the year 2000 Bob and Jane retired to Naples, FL.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Jane M. Becker; children: Rob Becker and Becki Goodman of Boise, Idaho, Reed and Amy Becker of Grand Rapids, MI, and Laura and Mark Wiltz of Ada, MI; siblings: Richard L. and Lorrie Becker; and six grandchildren: Hailey Becker, Robbie Becker, Carson Becker, Bren Becker, Emily Wiltz and Mason Wiltz. Bob is also survived by a multitude of friends who meant the world to him. Robert is predeceased by his parents, John C. Becker and Margaret Ballard Becker.
