First race was organised in 1961 and still it is popular race, where all offshore boat racers want to race. Very often it was also venue for offshore racing World Championships. In last five years race was turned to the P1 race and finally it is also UIM Marathon World Championship and World Cup race.
There are a lot of trophies awarded on this race. Oldest from them is The British International Harmsworth Trophy. Its winner will have to achieve the fastest average speed over both Cowes 100 & Cowes-Torquay-Cowes courses while competing for the UIM, BPRC Marathon World Cup.
