C7/C8 Rifle
The C7 automatic rifle is the personal weapon used by the Canadian Armed Forces. It is hand-held, shoulder-controlled, and
capable of semi-automatic or automatic fire. It is a light weight weapon which is air-cooled, gas-operated, and magazine-fed. It can be easily disassembled by the user for inspection and cleaning.
The rifle is equipped with ambidextrous controls, low infrared signature and an extendable butt. Its primary sighting system is an optical sight, which is supplemented by an adjustable front sight and an adjustable backup sight.
The C8 carbine rifle is used as a personal weapon when it is not feasible to use the C7A2 rifle and is used extensively by SALH crewman when performing mounted reconnaissance.
The C8 is much shorter and is much easier for SALH crewman to maneuver when crew based. Both the C7 and C8 can be fitted with a bayonet for close combat.
