The 31st Battalion

 C.E.F.

The 31st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, was established on November 4th, 1914, with

headquarters in Calgary. Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Henry Bell was appointed Commanding Officer.

The battalion would serve valiantly at some of the bloodiest battles along the Western Front during

the First World War.

The Battalion was demobilized upon its arrival home at the Calgary Armouries on June 1st, 1919. It was

one of nearly two-dozen battalions raised in Alberta to maintain its identity throughout the war.
