For some strange reason my ROKU4 stopped streaming NETFLIX at 4K. This was all working last time I used it a few days ago.
My Kit is ROKU4 connected to my AV Sony STR-DN860 via HDMI2.0. The AV connects to an LG 27MU67 monitor using HDMI2.0
All the kit is HDCP2.2 compliant.
This was a NETFLIX issue and all works fine now.
The ULTRA HD 4K logo disappeared from the title and playback confirmed I was streaming at 1080.
After contacting NETFLIX and spoke to 3 different tech support staff they all came to the conclusion that this was a problem with my ISP. !! WRONG !!!
I was given instructions to access a hidden NETFLIX Menu where a variety of items are available for support purposes. One of the facilities available is a network test. This sends test packets to 3 Netflix servers and then does a 20 second streaming test. As you can see from te picture all worked fine and I had plenty of bandwidth. Again Netflix support blamed my poor network connection or the ISP (Virgin Media). I rang Virgin Media on the off chance they may have been correct, as you would expect they told me contact Netflix or Roku support as my network had no restrictions.
After talking to Roku support I was again left without a solution. After trawling many forums I found many other people suffering with the same issue. A variety of solutions were suggested. Not sure as what works or not. This seems to be a firmware problem which does not handle the resolution selection correctly. I suspect a firmware change may have broken this. As how I got mine back to work I'm not 100% sure but it goes like this.
Start with Roku set to one of the 4K display modes and play a 4K video.
Push the Home button and change the Display type back to 1080p and load NETFLIX up.
Select a UHD Video to stream. If you press the * button you will see the resolution change, at some point it may go to 2160.
Quit NETFLIX and change the monitor display back to 4K UHD (do not select the 4K (10-bit) as that seems to break it).
Quickly reload NETFLIX and see if 2160 is available. I had to go down to 720p , then 1080p, then 4K before it started to work again.
This is definetly nothing to do with the ISP or NETFIX but a bug in the software. My version is 7.1
If anyone wants to pass any comments or feedback I am on AVForums FXV300
There are a variety of forum comments on to fix so good luck, hopefully ROKU will own up to this issue and fix it.
