The long wait for the Radeon Polaris GPUs is over.

The RX480 8G DDR5 is available at about £220 in the UK.

My RX480 arrived and this is a short video of the device working. Using Astra 28.2 test transmission which is UHD 4K @ 50fps (HEVC content)

Also showing power usage and other stats.

As the GPU drivers mature we see the RX4xx series getting better reviews. This blog follows many AMD Crimson discussions relevent to the RX4xx GPUs

RX480 cards will also deploy DisplayPort 1.4 capability, Full HEVC support and will be HDR Ready.

RX480 will sport DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 and HDMI 2.0b connectors will also be capable of outputting HDR signals.

I am extremely interested in this GPU as it supports HEVC hardware decoding. This would free up the CPU if you are watching any content which is encoded by HEVC codec. This will become more and more prominent.

HDCP 2.2 is also meant to be available but waiting for official specs.

As we can see Display Port 1.3 HBR3 and 1.4 HDR are now available.

HDMI 2.0b is also supported.
