DVBviewer Video Streaming

Setting up Video Streaming to Another PC

The following setup was done using Beta v5.6.2.0

You will need to install DVBViewer on the receiving PC to receive the streamed video from the server PC.

To change anything in DVBViewer, you can either select Options via the Settings menu, or you can right click on the screen and select Options. Once you have done that, select the Hardware section.

At this point we need to configure how we are going to receive the data - this is done by creating a virtual device using the "+" sign next to 'Scan Devices'.

In my case, I am going to use the UNICAST function, and as such I add 1 to UNICAST.

Now you have an entry for Unicast. You can now press Settings to configure the TCPIP section and observe the default values.

In the example above everything is being done on my Server PC so 127.0.0.1 is pointing to my own PC. Also note that the autodiscovery section is also blank - this is because I have not setup the DVBServer and it is not running as of yet.

DVBServer and DVBViewer use the same DVB hardware so only DVBViewer can access the hardware device. There are some PCI cards with dual tuners so it is possible to use one tuner on each DVBViewer in theory.

If you want to view the same channel on both PCs, you should use the netstreaming plug-in. This can be used instead of the DVBServer to view the same channel on both PCs. I have not tested the netstreaming plug-in as of yet.

How to Set Up the DVBServer

Location:

Window7_64bit

"C:\Program Files (x86)\DVBViewer\DVBServer.exe"

Window7_32bit

"C:\Program Files\DVBViewer\DVBServer.exe"

In my case I set up the server using Unicast, but if you prefer you can use Multicast. It is best to use a static IP address for this so that the client PC does not have to discover it every time.

Once you are done with the settings press the Start button - your firewall should warn you about this application trying to send data and for this to work you will need to "Allow" this.

IMPORTANT - for this to work you will need to set a rule on the receiving PC to allow port 2345.

The above picture is from the client PC. When I pressed 'discover', an entry was added to the autodiscovery list. You can see that it has populated the TCPIP setting automatically - we're done at this point.

We now have another obstacle - that the receiving PC has no channel list. The simplest way to populate it is by copying the configuration folder from the server PC to the configuration folder for the receiving PC. This will also fill in the hardware items which exist on the server - just delete the entries and away you go.

I probably left something important out, but this is working for me.

For this to work, you will need to set a rule on the receiving PC to allow port 2345.

I have been using DVBViewer for a couple of years - it is a good product for the small fee, well worth a look if you are keen on video streaming on the PC.

I have 2 devices to collect data - a Freeview USB device and a DVB-S2 Satellite card.

The DVBViewer forum is another useful resource for information and updates for this product.
