A Compilation of Data on the Warrenburg (aka Warrenburgh) Surname Which First Appeared in Virginia in the Late 18th Century
The Loudoun Wellspring
The earliest known references to the Warrenburg surname are found in the records of Loudoun County, Virginia.
The 1787 Loudoun County personal property tax list, William Gunnell Commissioner, listed an Andrew "Wardenburgh". Then the 1794 Loudoun County personal property tax list, James Coleman Commissioner, listed an Andw. Warrenburgh.
Maria/Mariah Warrenburg was born between 1785 and 1790, presumably in Loudoun County.
On 13 October 1794, Mary Warrenburg, born June 1780, was bound out to William Davidson.
On 1 December 1805, Barbary "Warrinburg" and Samuel Wren were married in Loudoun County by William Fristoe. Between 1811 and 1820 they moved to Clark County, Ohio.
An 1999 online post stated that "James Crouch m. Elisabeth Warrensburg in Loudon Co.VA abt.1790."
The Augusta and Rockbridge Cluster
The next group of Warrenburg records are found in Augusta and Rockbridge Counties, Virginia.
An Andrew Warrenburg (with spelling variations) is found in the Augusta personal property tax lists for the years 1801, 1803, 1805, 1806, and 1809. In the 1810 census, Andrew Warrenburg (age 26-45) was living in Wythe County, Virginia. He was still in Wythe County in the 1820 census, with his age > 45.
On 11 March 1802 Mary Warrenburgh and William Shepard were married in Augusta County by Rev. W. King.
On 23 December 1806, John "Worenteury" [actually Warrenburg] married Susannah Potter in Augusta County. Susannah was the daughter of David Potter of Rockbridge County.** [The "Potter" surname was anglicized from the German "Batdorf".]
John Warrenburg is found in the Rockbridge County personal property tax lists for 1807 and 1810, in the 1810 census of Rockbridge County (with his age 16-25), and the Rockbridge County personal property tax list for 1814. By 1820 John was living in Buckskin Township, Ross County, Ohio (with his age 26-45).
**How do we know that Worenteury was actually Warrenburg?
In an 1820 Augusta County Chancery case, one of the children of the deceased David Potter was identified as "Susannah Warnburk, the wife of John Warnbuck". [See http://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/full_case_detail.asp?CFN=015-1820-015#img ]
An 1825 Chancery correctly identified the surname as Warrenburgh:

SOME INTERPRETATIONS, COMMENTS, AND UNRESOLVED QUESTIONS
We note that an Andrew Warrenburg appears first in Loudoun, then in Augusta, and finally in Wythe. The simplest--although not necessarily correct--interpretation is that they all represent the same individual. (Surely the Andrew of Augusta became the Andrew of Wythe County.) We might assume that Andrew was age 21 or more when he appeared in the 1787 Loudoun personal property tax list. That would mean he was born in 1766 or earlier. Based on the age bracket given in the 1810 census, Andrew of Wythe was born between 1765 and 1784. So our best estimate is that Andrew was born about 1765-1766.
Then what was his relationship with Mary Warrenburg, born June 1780? Andrew would have been only 15 or so, which seems too young for him to have been her father. And if he were her father, then why was Mary bound out? Next, what about Andrew's relationship to Barbary Warrenburg? If we assume that she was about 18 when married in 1805, then she was born about 1787. Census records for 1850 and 1860 (see below) indicate she was born in 1788 or 1789. If Andrew were her father, then why did he leave her behind in Loudoun when he migrated to Augusta in 1801?
Alternatively, perhaps there were an Andrew Sr. born before 1766 and an Andrew Jr. born about 1784. We might speculate that Andrew Sr. died in Loudoun, and Andrew Jr. moved to Augusta.
Andrew's appearance in the Loudoun personal property tax list was very intermittent--only twice. His appearance in the Augusta tax lists, although also spotty, isa bit more continuous. If he came of age in Augusta in 1801, then we would estimate his year of birth to be 1780 (i.e. 1801-21=1780).
The appearance in Augusta in 1802 of Mary Warrenburgh suggests some sort of familial relationship with Andrew. He was probably either he brother or her father. We will presume here that she was the Mary who was born in June 1780 and bound out in Loudoun County in 1794. Otherwise we have two contemporaneous Marys to account for.
Andrew was likewise probably the brother or father of John Warrenburg. Based on the age bracket given in the 1810 Augusta census, John was born between 1785 and 1794. In we assume he was about 21 when married in 1806, then he was born about 1785. Based on the age bracket given in the 1820 census of Ross County, Ohio, John was born between 1775 and 1794. Thus a reasonable year of birth for John would be about 1785.

Mary Warrenburgh who married William Shepard in Augusta Co., VA in 1802
On 11 March 1802 Mary Warrenburgh and William Shepard were married in Augusta County by Rev. W. King.
(Presumably she was the Mary who was born in June 1780 and bound out in Loudoun County in 1794.)
A William Shepherd appeared in an 1806 personal property tax list for Augusta County.
After 1806 we lose track of him.
No further information.

Mariah or Marcia Warrinsburgh of Athens Co., Ohio - originally from Loudoun Co., VA??
On 28 November 1811, Marcia Warrinsburgh and Abraham Cassill were married in Alexander Township, Athens County, Ohio by Levi Johnson:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-9191-MN
Ohio, County Marriages, 1789-1994 > Athens > Marriage records 1822-1856 vol 1-2 > Image 44 of 117

The State of Ohio, Athens Co., Alexdr Twp) I hereby certify that on the 28th day of Novr last
Abraham Cassil & Miss Marcia Warrinsburgh both of the Twp aforesaid were joined in wed
lock by me Alexander Township 1811 Levi Johnson
Census records for 1850 and 1860 suggest Mariah was born between 1785 and 1790 in Virginia.
According to the History of Hocking Valley, Ohio (1883), page 1214, "The first marriage in Elk Township was that of Abraham Cassill to a young lady living with Mr. Jacob Shry, who came from Virginia. 'Squire Levi Johnson was the officiating person. This was in 1813 [sic-1811]."
On 31 Oct 1799, a Jacob Shry married Catherine Warford in Loudoun Co., Virginia. He is shown in the Loudoun personal property tax lists for 1801 through 1805 as living in Cameron Parish. By 6 Oct 1806, a Jacob Shry, presumably the same individual, was living in Wood Co., Virginia. The 1820 census of Elk Township, Athens Co., Ohio lists a Jacob Shry.
Accepting the above bits of information as true, it is concluded that Mariah "Warrinsburgh" was probably born in Loudoun County, Virginia. Perhaps she was bound out to Jacob Shry, or he was made her guardian. Mariah then went with Jacob Shry from Loudoun Co. to Wood Co., Virginia and from there to Athens Co., Ohio, where she married Abraham Cassill.

not remain long. Levi Kelsey was the first permanent settler of
the township, coming here with his family about 1802. Isaac
Phillips came in 1806; John Phillips in 1807. A Mr. Cassill
came in 1807 or 1808, and settled on section 26. His child, Sarah
Cassill, was the first death in the township. Levi Johnson came
in 1811. He put up the first horse-mill, and first still-house. He
was the first Justice of the Peace, and performed the ñrst marriage
in the township.
Jacob Shry came in 1811 and settled on section 25; his brother,

Isaac Shry, farmer, section 13, was born in Virginia, near Park-
ersburg, in 1807, and is a son of Jacob Shry, an old settler in this
county. Our subject, when a child, came with his parents to Ohio,
where he was reared upon a farm, and when old enough helped his
father to clear up the farm. He received only a limited education
in the subscription schools, and after attaining his majority he
began life for himself, and for eight years lived with his father.
He located upon his present place in 1840, containing at that time
eighty acres in the woods. He purchased afterward seventy acres
more, and now owns 150 acres of land, which is well improved, and
is engaged in farming and stock-raising. He was married in 1828
to Sallie, daughter of Israel Bobo, one of the early settlers in this
county. To Mr. and Mrs. Shry six children have been born, five
of whom are living-Melissa, Lorania, Phoebe, Sylvester and Flo-
retta. The son was a soldier, serving in the Second Virginia
Cavalry three years and three months. Mrs. Shry is a member
of the Christian church. Mr. Shry has been successful in life, and
through hard work and the assistance of his wife he has made a
good home, and is surrounded by all the comforts of life.

VOLUNTEER ENROLLMENT.
Pursuant to Resolutions submitted to the con-

the 6th day of October, 1806, and adopted, it is con-
sidered that the alarming situation of existing
affairs in this Western Country render it imme-

friend to his country, in support of that Constitution
and of that Government for which our fore-fathers
have bled, and having gained under which them-
selves and their children have so long happily lived,
to adopt measures of defense against the views of
any ambitious and disorganizing Demagogues in-

thereto, are expected to come forward upon this
occasion by subscribing their names to this paper
to form themselves into a Volunteer independent

Trivia alert:
Thomas Wren married Nancy Turley. One of their sons was named Aquilla.
Their daughter Sarah married Ezekiel Bobo.
Ezekiel's sister Sarah Bobo married Isaac Shry, son of Jacob Shry, in whose household lived
Mariah/Mary Warrinsburgh who married Abraham Cassill in 1811.
It may be that Thomas Wren was the brother of Samuel Wren who married Barbara Warrenburg.
