Between 1695 and 1748, the orphanage in Halle/Saale kept a record of the charges in its care comprising information on their birth, background, geographical and social origins, general knowledge on admission, progress at the orphanage, and further career after leaving it. This edition of largely untapped material from the school archives of the Francke Foundations represents a uniquely valuable mine of information for research into the Halle brand of pietism and its place in the history of education, religiosity and German society. The name and place indexes are a valuable resource for research on historical figures of significance in the 18th century.

Message regarding the expenditure for Simon Siron's clothes; Sickness of Siron from "red dysentary" [aka bloody flux?]
[Note 1: Neubauer was evidently still the orphanage overseer "der Waiserhauservater" in 1719.]
[Note 2: A letter from Gotthilf August Francke to his wife Anna Magdalena Francke dated 25 August 1719 had reported an outbreak of dysentary among the students at the "house" (presumably referring to the orphanage). He wrote to her again on the 28th, mentioning an improvement in the condition of the students who had been suffering from dysentary.]
