Una Zeck
SEAW President 1994, SEAW Spokane President 1993
A native of Illinois, Una Irelan Zeck received a Bachelor of Architecture degree (architectural engineering option) from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana followed by a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Structures) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976. Early in her career she worked alternately as an architect and as an engineer for firms in Chicago, Washington DC, Reston, VA, and Spokane.
After moving to Spokane in 1977, she spent 8 years with Atwood-Hinzman Consulting Engineers (where she first joined SEAW) before becoming a principal with Structural Design Northwest, Inc., in 1986. After an early emphasis on medical facilities, her career has largely focused on schools, both new facilities and renovations. She has engineered a wide range of educational facilities, K-12 and collegiate, throughout eastern and central Washington and north Idaho.
Una served as the first female President of both SEAW Spokane (1993-94) and SEAW (1994-95). During her tenure as SEAW President, she joined the Snow Load Committee and facilitated the completion and publication of the SEAW Snow Load Manual (2nd edition). In other professional service, Una served on the Gonzaga University School of Engineering Design Advisory Board 1996-2012.
In 1985 her colleagues honored Una Zeck as the SEAW Spokane Engineer of Merit.
