VIII.2 If any third-party tools and/or content are utilized by the course, they are compliant with accessibility standards, or equally effective accessible alternatives are provided.

◉ REQUIRED STANDARD

Expectations

    1. Unless under contract (e.g. Pearson MyLabs), third-party tools and content are not typically evaluated by the SDBOR. For this reason, instructors should do due diligence to ensure any third-party tools and/or content are compliant with accessibility standards.
    2. If third-party tools/content cannot be made accessible directly, equally effective accessible alternatives are provided.

Examples

    • If an instructor wants to use a YouTube video in a course, but it does not have captions—or the captions are insufficient (e.g., autocaptions)—they can utilize a service like Amara to create suitable captioning.
