Duncan Bryant Award - Conditions

Duncan Bryant Award Conditions

1. The Duncan Bryant Award (DBA) is an Award made by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Molecular Spectroscopy Interest Group to recognise scientific excellence in the field of molecular spectroscopy of pharmaceuticals.

2. The Award was originally set up in conjunction with GSK who donated the limited edition prints which constitute part of the Award. The initial establishment of the Award included the designation of its scope.

3. The Award is made to a young or Early Career Researchera. The recipient may be based in either industry or academia

a. Young and Early Career Researchers are normally under the age of 32 or are in the early stages of their research career.

4. The award recipient will be selected following a mechanism specified in advance. It is possible that this mechanism may change from award to award, and the decision for the mechanism to be used each subsequent award will be made by the Molecular Spectroscopy Group Committee.

a. Examples of such mechanisms include best speaker at a nominated scientific symposium/conference/meeting, best poster at a nominated symposium/conference/meeting or best paper during a specified period of time.

5. Where the science leading to the award is based upon a collaborative effort, it is expected that the nominated scientist will be the key contributor to the research or science leading to the award decision.

6. The selection decision for the Award will be made by either the full Molecular Spectroscopy Group Committee or a sub-group of that Committee. The composition of any such sub-group will be selected by the Committee.

7. Any member of the Committee having a conflict of interest in the selection decision for the Award will state this conflict of interest at the commencement of the selection process and will excuse themselves from the final selection decision, although they may still provide feedback within the selection process.

8. The award will include a framed picture commemorating Duncan Bryant’s life, a certificate and a small cash amount to be decided by the RSC Molecular Spectroscopy Group Committee.

9. The Award winner may be invited by the Molecular Spectroscopy Group Committee to receive the Award and/or make a presentation at its annual Symposium.

10. The RSC Molecular Spectroscopy Group Committee reserve the right not to make the award should an application of sufficient quality not be received.

11. The RSC Molecular Spectroscopy Committee reserve the right to modify these conditions in accordance with RSC rules and expectations.
