FACCS 2010

RSC AD sponsored technical symposium at FACCS 2010, Raleigh, NC, USA:

Applications, Advances, and Deduction by Vibrational Spectroscopy

In 2010 the RSC AD sponsored technical symposium at FACSS was organised by the Molecular Spectroscopy Group (MSG); FACSS was held in Raleigh, NC, USA, on 17-21 October 2010. The RSC AD sponsored session, which was organised and presided over by John Chalmers, an MSG committee member, took place on the morning of Thursday 21st and featured 6 speakers, all of whom were RSC members.

Given that the session took place on the morning of the last day of the meeting, the session was relatively well attended compared with other parallel symposia, with between about 25 to 45 delegates present throughout the symposium.

The session was featured in the meeting program as the Royal Society of Chemistry, Analytical Division: Applications, Advances and Deduction by Vibrational Spectroscopy. The oral presentations were:

Antony Williams, ChemSpider RSC, USA, Building a Community Resource of Open Spectral Data.

Steven Bell, Queen’s University, Belfast, N.I., Establishing Raman Spectroscopy as a First Choice Method in Forensic Casework.

Howell Edwards, University of Bradford, U.K, Raman Spectroscopy in Forensic Geoscience and Contraband Materials.

Tony Moffat, The School of Pharmacy, University of London, UK, Raman and Near-infrared Spectroscopy for the Forensic Analysis of Intact Tablets.

Duncan Graham, University of Strathclyde, UK, Raman Mapping of Chocolate and Cells.

Ian Lewis, Kaiser Optical Systems, Inc., USA, Sampling for Success: Quantitative in situ Raman Spectroscopy.
