The Duncan Bryant Award

History

When Dr Duncan Bryant, Chairman of the committee of the RSC Molecular Spectroscopy Group, died in 2005, the committee of the Group sought an appropriate way of marking their gratitude and their affection for him. The result was the Duncan Bryant Award for early career molecular spectroscopy scientists studying or working in the pharmaceutical sector.

The selection process of the award winner has evolved over time with the aim to provide diverse ways of ensuring a worthy recipient.  The inaugural presentation of the Duncan Bryant Award was made in May 2008, and has since been awarded on five subsequent occasions to date.

The Award

The Award itself is a print of a unique picture (right) commissioned by Duncan’s former employers, GSK, representing different aspects of Duncan’s professional and personal life.  The print will be supported by a certificate and a cash amount.

The Award will continue to be awarded via a range of mechanisms.
