ABOUT RICE -WN

BACKGROUND

Formed in 2004 and registered in 2005, Rural Initiative for Community Empowerment -West Nile (RICE WN) is a Ugandan Community Based, multidisciplinary, non– profit making, independent Organization working in West Nile, Parts of Eastern DRC and parts of Acholi Sub Region. Headquartered in Arua Municipality in the West Nile Sub-Region of Uganda, RICE-WN continues to make a profound and progressive contribution towards the development of rural and Peri-urban communities in Uganda.

RICE WN has among other interventions formed PHA groups in Kijomoro & Tara in Maracha district. While in Arua district we have PHA groups in Omugo, Aii-vu & Uriama Sub counties. With these groups we do psychosocial support, out reaches, nutrition improvement and Income Generating Activities through Horticultural crop production. Being limited by resources, we only allow each group to select two enterprises, Trainings on briquette and liquid soap making. We also provide them with basic care kits as well as HCT for those who have never had the chance in the rural areas.

RICE-WN works with a number of partners in the execution of its mission. These include the local governments of Maracha, Arua, Moyo, Nebbi and Nwoya, sister CBOs, AIDS Information Centre(AIC), Local governments of sub counties of Aiivu, Oluko, Omugo, Odupi, Tara, Yivu, Nyadri, Oleba, Oluffe, Uluvu, and Manibe in Arua and Maracha, Packwach, Panyimur, Alwi, Alero. purongo, Kochgoma, Itula and Gimara in Nebbi, Nwoya and Moyo districts. Over the years RICE-WN has enjoyed the trust of partners and increase in the number of the partners. The number of communities served and scope of activities have increased tremendously.

Simplicity: This value highlights the fact that RICE WN manages every thing in easy and understandable ways. The leaders give clear instructions and provide clear solutions. It also highlights the clear and easy lifestyle of the members. RICE WN is non bureaucratic

Team spirit: This highlights cooperation and one journey towards the goals. We in RICE WN believe that Together Everyone Achieves More. Coordination, open communication and amicable problem solving are observed at all times.

Respect: All persons of various capacities are valued in RICE WN. Since each person has a contribution to make, there is no one whom RICE WN considers of no value. Therefore each person's view is respected. Consultation is a prime principle in RICE WN. RICE WN also respects people’s private life and relationships outside work and can also assist a person in need of support.

Excellence: This is the value of embracing high class, high quality and high standard of living. RICE WN staff will strive to be smart at all times, accurate in whatever they do and thorough in all affairs. The total objective behind this value is to maximize effective performance and minimize errors. RICE WN will pass this value to the communities they deal and work with.

Novelty: This value highlights the Endeavor of RICE WN to embrace new and good changes that come or are brought to the organization. This novelty does not mean accepting any new occurrence but rather coping with the dynamics of the changing world. This guards against the risk of becoming obsolete or archaic and achieves the dream of remaining contemporary.

Guardianship: This value takes care of showing concern for each other and for the people and resources under our care. The staff will do their best to treat everyone with compassion and do the duties for the people under our care. The aspect of guarding against evil both for the organization and for the individual members is also involved here. We have to take care of the organization and give care to those entrusted to us.

Time consciousness: This involves planning ahead of time, being time conscious about programs and deadlines. RICE WN strives to do everything in time in order to avoid unnecessary pressure. RICE WN also works by schedules not by ambush, except for unforeseen emergency cases.

Honesty: We cherish truth and sincerity in all we do. This is done through communication of all state of affairs through reports, transparency and accountability. RICE WN emphasizes originality and creativity and thus no illegality, fraud, is entertained.
