Description
SAMI stands for Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer. SAMI is applied by first putting down a layer of tack, then putting a layer of aggregate on top. It is placed on streets that have a concrete or brick base, or streets that have a lot of truck traffic. SAMI is usually done a few days after milling, and after the SAMI layer is placed the contractor has nine days to pave the street. Contractor needs to remove temp asphalt wedges prior to tack course. The contractor needs to remove temporary asphalt wedges, and should take care to cover all manholes and other structures prior to placing SAMI. Any street with SAMI doesn’t get a normal tack coat.
