CLOSE PROGRAM - http://www.columbus.gov/close
Description
Asphalt paving must be completed within 7 days of milling unless SAMI is used, then it must be completed in 9 days. If there is not tack present on a milled surface or vertical face then it will need to be tacked prior to paving. If surface is not already tacked it should be swept before being tacked. When the first asphalt truck arrives, check jmf list to ensure if the material is approved; if it is not correct, shut down the paving immediately and alert foreman and supervisors. Sometimes the conversion factor on the tickets is not correct; when in doubt refer to the approved jmf conversion factor list. The first yield test for the day should be performed as soon as possible, preferably during the first truck load. After calculating a yield, discuss with the foreman about potential changes that can be made to improve the yield. In the event of a light rain, contact supervisor but allow paving to continue. If there is a heavy rain, shut down the paving and contact supervisor.
Pre-level should be separated into a different tonnage than that of the surface course, and ideally pre-level will be all asphalt that is deeper than the planned thickness of the street. Inspectors should obtain a ticket for each truck load that is placed. If the paving operation moves from one street to another, write the street name on the first and last asphalt tickets that were used on that street. On the final ticket for the day, include the total tonnage and payments for each individual street and course. At the end of the day, agree with the foreman about any leftover or unused asphalt and write on the ticket the amount, if any, of tonnage that is sent back and not paid for. Before the contractor leaves the street for the day, temporary striping must be in place.
Ross will update note about tarps – truck coverings
