CLOSE PROGRAM - http://www.columbus.gov/close
Description
Berm is placed on streets that do not have curbs in order to constrain the road and provide proper drainage for the street. If the area surrounding the road is too high, linear grading will have to be implemented to reshape the berm area. The berm will fill in the area surrounding the street and will be roughly two feet wide. Berm is consisted of four different layers, placed in order as follows: the first layer is a bituminous prime coat that is sprayed down, second is a layer of stabilized crushed aggregate, next is a seal coat bituminous material, and lastly a layer of seal coat cover aggregate is placed on top. The process of constructing a berm usually takes two days, with the first two layers occurring on the first day, and last two layers on the following day. Inspectors are to obtain proper tickets for all materials used, including a heavyweight ticket the day of operation and a wayback ticket the following day.
