Ground Beetles
Heath Goldsmith Ground Beetle
This ground beetle was photographed by Sandra Winter (13th April 2020) in Kinloch Rannoch.
It has been identified by John Senior O’Rourke as Carabus nitens.
As with other ground beetle Carabus nitens is a predator and has been described as Britain’s most beautiful ground beetle.
Sandy Morrison tells me that it has been recorded from the Black Wood of Rannoch.
This is an endangered beetle and a great find - well done Sandra!
