Rannoch Natural History Society Meetings

Meetings

1st December 2019 - Inaugural meeting at the Riverbank Café in Kinloch Rannoch. About twelve attended.

8th December 2019 - Dunalastair Water - Led by Richard Paul - 3 attended (Weather very challenging)

19th January 2020 - Schiehallion Limestone Pavement - Led by Richard Paul - about 15 attended - some from as far afield as Perth

23rd May 2020 - Black Wood of Rannoch to be led by Rob Coope

Unfortunately this meeting could not take place due to Covid 19 restrictions.

Rob Coope worked as a Forestry Ranger in the Black Wood of Rannoch. He later became Biodiversity Officer for the Forestry Commission. He is in charge of the deer management team at Dùn Coillich and is an environmental consultant. He knows more about the Black Wood than any body else.

Heather Hamilton is the Project Officer at Dùn Coillich for Highland Perthshire Communities Land Trust (HPCLT)

These are some of the things she does -

She organises and runs the Rural Skills training courses.

She organises the Tuesday volunteer work parties.

She liaises with School and arranges and oversees school visits.

She liaises with the component organisations of the ‘Heart of Scotland Forest Project.

(The component organisations are - John Muir Trust, Forestry and Land Scotland, Woodland Trust, Scottish Wildlife Trust, Kynachan Estate and Dalchosnie Estate.)

She liaises with universities

She liaises with the RSPB concerning Black Grouse viewing days.

She does biodiversity surveys.

She does tree surveys.

She maintains paths.

She is involved in GIS recording.

She organises the annual BBQ.

She plants trees.

She takes part in deer counts.

She is overseeing the installation of a composting toilet.

Oh yes, she liaises with politicians.

I could go on.

Ian Wilkinson has agreed to give a talk on honeybees - date to be decided.
