Since graduating from Point Park College in 1975 as THOM MILLER, Clayton has worked continuously in Theatre Arts as an actor, stage manager, manager, artistic director and director. Directly out of school he toured as an actor with the New Shakespeare Company on the West Coast before moving to New York, where stage managing became the main career focus. Beginning with North Shore Music Theatre and then national tours of Gigi and Dancin’, worked with Anne Bogart and Richard Forman during a tenure with Music Theatre Group and then worked on the off-Broadway shows Three Guys Naked From The Waist Down, Angry Housewives. Lips Together Teeth Apart, and Tapestry, the music of Carol King. Was Production Stage Manager for the Broadway productions of Staright Express, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Candide and Parade. Clayton was also Harold Prince’s Assistant, as well, for Kiss of the Spider Woman, Candide and Parade on Broadway. He assisted Mr. Prince on the national tours of Kiss of the Spider Woman, and Parade and has directed Kiss of the Spider Woman in Tokyo (in Japanese) and Buenos Aires (in Spanish) as well as in the round at North Shore Music Theatre (where his stage managing career began). He has served as Producing Artistic Director of The Barnstormers Theatre in New Hampshire, and Theatre Three in Long Island, and as Managing Director for York Theatre Company in New York, Executive Producer of NETwork’s national tour of The Full Monty, as well as an interim Executive Director of the New York City Gay Mens Chorus. Clayton has worked as a director nationally and internationally. He directed tours of Show Boat (nominated for American Theatre Award as Best Direction and Best Musical), and Kiss of the Spider Woman and served as Associate Director for the National tour of Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Oliver! . He directed Empire, the musical in Los Angeles, which was nominated for an Ovation Award as Best New Musical and won for Best Choreography. Clayton directed the workshop of Slow Dance With A Hot Pickup by John Pielmieir (Author of Agnes of God) at Florida Studio Theatre and then presented the Professional World Premiere at The Barnstormers Theatre which won several New Hampshire theatre Awards, including Best Musical and Best Direction. Other directorial credits include: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Camelot, The Music Man, Into The Woods, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Dirty Blonde, Breaking Legs, Gypsy, Our Town, Of Mice And Men, The Apple Tree, The Last Five Years and the world premiere of Gauging, the Musical, among others. Current Position: Production Manager for Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Jupiter Florida and Freelance Director.
