It started innocently enough, with a photo that one of us posted on Facebook: the graduating class of 1975 in their caps and gowns on the steps of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. Back then, we didn’t have Facebook, or much of a clue, for that matter, but we all had degrees in Theater from Point Park and the highest of hopes. The sight of that photo, all those naïve young hopefuls clutching their diplomas, must have struck some kind of chord, because soon there was a flurry of activity, “friendings” and wall posts and long-lost chums emerging from digital obscurity eager to reconnect. Before long, there was talk of a get-together, and soon the talk turned to action, and the idea began to snowball.
And now, here we all are together once more after so many years of joy, heartbreak, trials, tribulations, disappointments, triumphs. We've acquired much over the last thirty five years or so--wisdom, experience, wrinkles, cellulite, love handles, children, pets, aging parents, burial plots. But beneath the barnacles we've accumulated over the decades, we're still those fresh-faced kids, full of passion and love for the stage. Like the showgirls and their stage-door Johnnies in Sondheim's Follies, we've returned to where it began for us, fully expecting to encounter a ghost or two wandering the halls of the Playhouse. It's a time to celebrate our glorious past, to survey the serpentine paths that led us from there to here, and to raise a glass to friendship! To quote another Sondheim song, "Who's like us? Damn few!"
