The way we look
Regarding to “The way we look” by Neil and Alice, in the program 6 Minute English, the topic of the session will be about appearances, genes and the importance of how the people give them. The conversation is centered on a comparison between what used to be important and what now attracts attention, besides to why it is of great magnitude to keep in shape.
Although having a physical appearance, which is within the current beauty canons, is an achievement that many people would like to have, the reality is that being able to achieve it, is without a doubt, an arduous job that can sometimes lead to serious problems. For the health of the individual. Achieving a sculptural figure requires work, demanding physical work and that must be continuous over time. To this is added the type of food and specifically the type of food one eats. When you are conditioning your body to obtain a slim, slender and even muscular appearance, food is essential. Sometimes, when the obsession to achieve the desired body is high, the person chooses not to eat or eat very little, all this in order not to gain weight. This can be harmful to the health of people because the body needs nutrients from food and a lack or low incorporation of these can generate alterations in the normal functioning of the body. If this is sustained over time it can generate disorders and health problems.
Another point of view about appearances is its importance in the lifestyle of today's society. The social pressure that is exerted on the individual and the implantation of a visual model, aesthetic paradigm, canon or simply an idea of what is the ideal appearance is quite strong, this we can show in day to day and everything that we surrounds. Advertising sells an image of the appearance that finally becomes an object of desire for those who see it. This leads to a collective idea of what is the ideal appearance, which results in a work in pursuit of achieving the ideal appearance. To achieve this, various means are available, such as fashion clothing, makeup, or even plastic surgery. All this leads us to understand that the external appearance is changing, it can be manipulated at the whim of each person and will depend on their tastes, however, the only thing that is difficult to change is the inner beauty, therefore, I believe that inner beauty is much more important than outer beauty. I believe that personality makes each person unique and unequaled, I believe that having different interests is beneficial to know different realities, to understand how a person is and why it is so. This allows us to show clear differences and particularities of each individual that are not recognizable at first sight.
To conclude with this reaction paper, I make a balance between appearance as a very important topic, and the appearance as something not very important. I make a balance of the important of the appearance because have a health body, will give you strength, energy and will keep you mentally health. On the other hand, appearance is important but not as being a good person, not as feeling respectable with your body. To me, the real beauty is the inner one.
