Open Cup
Wythall 5 – 2 Ravens
Scorers :- Kori 2
M.o.M:- Kori
Our Cup draw jinx saw us draw the Wythall for the 3rd time in 12 months. The two recent games really have laid down a marker for the team as to where we need to aim to be. Wythall have more determination and a greater desire to succeed than we do at the moment. Some aspects of what we do are still a little too relaxed with a “so be it” attitude.
The main difference I have seen between the teams is a much greater physicality from Wythall. We lost most 50/50 tackles and were pushed off the ball too often. We were caught in possession when not releasing the ball quickly enough. They just wanted it more.
Defensively we have been made to look very static in dealing with pace and movement. Josh White and Liam stood up to the test well over the 2 games and they now need to maintain and try to kick on once more.
On the positive side the effort levels of most were impressive and we kept our shape reasonably well. Kori was a constant threat and deserved his goals today. He works tirelessly upfront for the team and he was a real credit to us.
There are 1 or 2 areas that need strengthening if we are to push home our goal of hitting the premier league. We need everybody to be at their best and up for the battle and I am just not seeing it in some areas.
So far this season everybody has played a good proportion of every game and if everybody is at the top of their games this is ok. Now that gaps are appearing though this will not always happen. Players that have lost form will have to rediscover it to get a good share of the game time.
I just wanted to mention a couple of great saves that Alfie made during this game but Kori stole the show to earn the man of the match.
