Wychall A 0 v 1 Olton Ravens
Scorer:- Freddy
M.o.M:- All
Crunch time with this top of the table clash and just 5 games to go. Somebody was going to take a big step forward today as we could go 5 points ahead of Wychall, although they have a game in hand. Or we could have fallen 1 point behind which probably would have ruined any chances we had as winning this division.
The game itself was everything that you would imagine. Closely fought in every area of the pitch and both sets of playing very evenly matched.
Josh D was picked in goal today as Tom and Alfie missed out. Rankin also sat this one out as he has a bruised toe but it was great to see Ryan and Daz at the game. Jake and Josh W were given the task of handling the Wychall forward that comes with a big reputation and boy didn’t they do it well as Wychall were limited to just one shot on target that was well pushed over by Joshy.
We had the better of the early exchanges with Freddy an instant handful. Brian was seeing a lo t of the ball and Brad almost broke the deadlock against his former team when he shot narrowly wide.
Wychall came back into the game toward the end of the half with some corners and free kicks but defensively as a team we were excellent. Ish offering great support to the lads at the back.
We had some other shots on target but they were fairly comfortable for their keeper. Half time 0-0.
Phil went on and instantly had 2 shots pushed behind for corners as we looked to get on top again. We were missing Freddys presence upfront though at the set pieces. Jake was still winning the battle with the forward as he tracked his every move across the pitch brilliantly. Liam had gone on and picked up where Brad left off and the performance continued to look very solid. It was just a matter of whether we could nick a goal. Late into the game we had a succession of corners. The 3rd one saw Fred go back on and head into the net with his first touch. 1-0.
Wychall threw players forward late on but they could not get past our defensive wall.
This performance when based on attitude, guts, work rate and commitment was up there with our best. There was a terrific maturity about our lads approach today. I cannot pick a man of the match as I felt everybody contributed massively to this win.
4 games to go and it is now in our hands. We need to keep our foot on the pedal and put in 4 more performances like the last few and we can hopefully achieve our goal.
Well done lads.
