Ravens 6 – 0 Redditch Town
Brian 2, Fred 2, Rankin, Brad
M.o.M: Bri
League game number 2 and I left with as big a smile on my face as I have had from one of our performances. This was an excellent example of team play and it took so much of what we do at training out onto the pitch.
The last 10 minutes of the 1st half was so fluent going forward. Bri, Brad and Rankin were cutting Redditch to pieces with simplicity. Pass and move. Pass and move.
It was a faultless display. All 10 players were at the top of their games. Very rarely did I see anybody running with the ball. We let the ball do the work.
We started like a house on fire and should have had a penalty straight away when Bri’s shot was brilliantly saved on the line, but by the defender. We carried on our dominance and Brad in particular was getting plenty of the ball and using it intelligently. Bri and Rankin were linking up more and more as chances kept coming.
Bri put us in front with magic feet in the box evading 3 tackles and prodding it in. We were in complete control now. Bri scored again from Rankin’s cheeky flick. Rankin then smashed a goal in from Brian’s pass and Brad scored direct from yet another brilliantly taken corner. Jake and Els were dominant at the back and Joshy D was a spectator. Half time 4-0.
Liam, Josh W and Fred went on and continued where the others left off. Our work rate and speed of play in possession was excellent and I was much happier with how quickly we pressed the ball to win it back.
We continued to press forward. Ish surged up the right and crossed for Fred to make it 5. Liam was excellent in possession and ran his socks off on the left. His brilliant pass set up Fred to make it 6 and he was unlucky not to score himself when he hit the post. Josh W was commanding at the back and Jake was so strong with 2 outstanding tackles in particular.
The Redditch keeper kept the score down with some great saves but we continued to dominate.
Next week it is Redditch again, this time in the cup but mark my words, Redditch will be looking for revenge. We need to start again. Phil was the player to miss out on selection this week and it did make my life easier so next week I will once again ask a player to sit out.
Well done lads, an outstanding display.
