Setting a static IP address

On Ubuntu, most of the time the automatic network connection works wonderfully well, however, on secured networks (like those on Universities) it may fail.

In order to set a static IP address, go to System --> Preferences --> Network Configuration

Now, in the wired tab, add the Wired connection 1. Select the just created Wired connection 1, and click on the Edit button.

The MAC address is obtained by typing ifconfig on a terminal, on the eth0 HWaddr

In the IPv4 Settings tab, choose the manual method, and add the necessary numbers, as shown below

Say Ok and That's it!
