How
Course Requests:
If you are in 8th grade, please put "Tenor Bass Choir" or "Soprano Alto Choir" on your list of electives for pre-registration.
Please note: "Tenor Bass Choir" and "Soprano Alto Choir" only last two trimesters. It is suggested that people wishing to take "Tenor Bass Choir" and "Soprano Alto Choir" also take "Concert Choir" or "Music Literacy" in third trimester.
Step 1: Practice "America, the Beautiful" and other skills taught during class such as interval singing, rhythm reading, solfege reading, and other dynamics and articulations. If you are currently in a choir, you may be asked to sing a section from one of the pieces or describe the cultural origins of a piece.
Step 2: If you are not currently in choir, sign up for an audition on the classroom door. Otherwise, be prepared to audition during class.
Auditions for Harbor Singers and Treble Choir will be conducted during class but in a practice room. This is to help students who are uncomfortable singing in front of their peers.
Step 3: Bring a great attitude and show us your confidence. Be on time and clear your head of everything that will get in the way of making great music. I'm not necessarily looking for the person with the best voice. I'm looking for the people who demonstrate the skills taught during classes.
Step 4: Check the Harbor Singers callback list. Callbacks for Harbor Singers will be Thursday, March 5 at 6:30pm - 8:30pm and you must stay the whole time. You must attend to be considered for this class. This ensures that a student can plan and prioritize for this class.
Step 5: If you received a callback for Harbor Singers, attend the callback at which time you will be asked to learn a piece of music in a group. During this audition, you will be assessed based on your ability to work with peers in a respectful and productive manner. Students will then be asked to sing as a group and record their voice into a school-provided Chromebook.
Step 6: Wait for results to be posted on the choir room door.
