To audition for Solo & Ensemble, students must be a member of choir. The auditions will be announced at the beginning of the year and will be after school. If the students cannot come to the designated audition dates, they will not be allowed to reschedule. Below is a summary of the information. For a list of the complete Rules and Regulations, please follow the link at the bottom of the page. REMINDER: Mr. McCoy cannot work with you on your Solo/Ensemble Music. He has classical music books that you can peruse but he cannot help you prepare.
What: Solo and Ensemble (S&E) is a festival in which students and small groups are allowed to compete. This event earns you a point towards lettering in choir.
Who: Any choir student who is completely prepared with a solo or small group performance.
Now what: If you pass the audition, you can register for the festival. The festival costs $15 for a 10-minute time slot and you can purchase two time slots if you are doing multiple songs.
Competition is the last Saturday of January and usually at Bellingham High School. It might be at OHHS for 2023. You must provide your own transportation and accompanist.
Literature: The songs for S&E must be from the classical/folk genre. If you have a question about a specific piece, please read the link below for talking with me.
Accompanist: Soloists and small groups should be aware that you must pay an accompanist to play for you at this competition. Rates are up to the accompanist. Mr. McCoy usually requests $30 which covers performance and one 30-minute rehearsal after school in January. You may ask Mrs. Burge or someone else if you wish.
