Course Descriptions

Tenor Bass Choir ("Troubadours")

Syllabus: FAOCMA/B

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: none

Length: Fall and Winter Trimesters/1 credit

This is a Tenor/Bass Choir at OHHS and is for beginning voices that most easily sing in the tenor and bass ranges. This group usually has 20-30 singers and will perform 6-8 times during the year at school and community events. There is open enrollment - no audition is required, and prior singing experience isn't necessary though some students are also enrolled in other choirs or have already taken Tenor Bass Choir. We will explore the basics of using your singing voice, what written music means, and the fun of making music in a group situation.

Soprano Alto Choir ("Bel Canto") 

Syllabus: FAOCWA/B

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: none

Length: Fall and Winter Trimesters/1 credit

This is a Soprano/Alto Choir at OHHS and is for beginning voices that most easily sing in the treble range. This group usually has 40-60 singers and will perform 6-8 times during the year at school and community events. There is open enrollment - no audition is required, and prior singing experience isn't necessary. We will explore the basics of using your singing voice, what written music means, and the fun of making music in a group situation.

TREBLE CHOIR

Syllabus: FAOCTA/B/C

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: Placement by audition in March

Length: one year/1.5 credits

This is the intermediate choir and is for treble voices (SSA). Music reading skills are emphasized and enrollment is by audition. The choir performs 12-15 times during the school year at school, in the community, and out-of-town events. There are usually 40-50 members.  The families must purchase a shirt. Treble Choir will sometimes combine with other choirs for performances. Students must make a full-year commitment to the choir.

HARBOR SINGERS

Syllabus: FAOCHA/B/C

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: Placement by audition in March

Length: one year/1.5 credits

This is the advanced choir at OHHS and is for 45-60 mixed voices (SATB). Harbor Singers perform 20-25 times during the school year at school, community, and out-of-town events. Students should have advanced sight-reading, listening, and concentration skills. The group will study and perform music from all styles and eras, from madrigals and motets to pop, jazz, and Broadway. The families must purchase a shirt. Harbor Singers will sometimes combine with other choirs for performances. Students must make a full-year commitment to the choir.

CHAMBER CHOIR IS NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED AT OHHS

Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisites: Placement by audition.

 Chamber Choir

This is the advanced small choir at OHHS and is for 12-16 mixed voices (SATB). Chamber perform 10-20 times during the school year at school, community, and out-of-town events. Students should have advanced sight-reading, listening, and concentration skills. The group will study and perform music from all styles and eras but will have an emphasis on modern jazz and pop. The families must purchase a shirt. Students must make a full-year commitment to the choir. 

CHOIR CLUB

Adviser: Darren McCoy

Each year, the Choir Club supports and helps plan many activities of the High School Choral Program. They plan choir parties and raise funds for many things including musicals and travels to musical events. We meet Tuesdays at 2:40 in the choir room.  Elections are typically held in May for the following academic year.
