The Heliocentric Model of the Solar System asserts that the Sun is the center of the Solar System, and that all the planets revolve around the Sun. The order of the planets, from closest to the Sun to farthest away, are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The Moon is said to revolve around the Earth.Today there is no doubt that the Heliocentric Model of the Solar System is correct, and that the Geocentric Model is not. But four hundred and fifty years ago, such was not the case, and Copernicus suggested the Heliocentric Model only on his death bed.Galileo was essential is showing that the Geocentric Model must be incorrect. His most damning evidence was his observation of the Phases of Venus. Here is a nice movie that shows the heliocentric motion of the first six planets, as viewed from outer space.
