Albert Einstein was a German born physicist who lived between the years 1879 and 1955. With the possible exception of Sir Isaac Newton, he is considered the greatest scientist who ever lived. In 1999, forty four years after his death, Time Magazine declared him the "Person of the Century".Einstein's accomplishments are numerous and legendary. To name a few, he explained the photoelectric effect, which hypothesized that light was composed of particles, each containing a small amount of energy. Einstein also single-handedly developed the Special Theory of Relativity, ultimately showing that energy could be converted into mass, and vice-versa. Einstein then went on to develop the General Theory of Relativity, a theory that augmented and supplanted Newton's theory of gravity. From this general theory, Einstein was able to show that freely falling objects were equivalent to weightless objects, and that accelerating frames of reference produced effects completely equivalent to gravity.Einstein also made important contributions to the new science called Quantum Mechanics, including the problem called the EPR paradox, now called the problem of entanglement.
