Asteroids are small rocky bodies commonly found between Mars and Jupiter, or on Lagrange points on Jupiter's orbit.Asteroids are sometimes referred to as minor planets. Unlike comets and KBOs, asteroids do not have icy coverings. The largest asteroid, Ceres, is referred to as a dwarf planet. It is a commonly held view that the asteroids in the "asteroid belt" between Mars and Jupiter are the remnants of a planet that did not form, because of strong gravitational tugs from Jupiter. The asteroids on Jupiter's orbit are called Trojan asteroids.
