This morning, Ed showed that he was a good sport by watching Tom's "Fox News." Tom will soon reciprocate by watching a little "MSNBC."
We left Liberty at 7:30 a.m., traveled northwest to St. Joseph, Missouri, then turned westward. We crossed the Missouri River and left the "Show Me" state in hopes of finding out what the heck a Kansas Jayhawk is. We didn't see any Jayhawks, but we did see a lot of wheat, corn, and cows. Kansas is a beautiful state, with miles and miles of green fields of corn and golden fields of wheat.
We traveled west on Highway 36 for hours and hours. For about 330 miles, we counted five or six curves. That highway has to be the straightest two-lane highway in America. We passed Smith Center, Kansas, the geographical center of the United States (lower forty-eight). We ate lunch at a local's favorite in Mankato. At Oberlin, we turned right (finally), and headed to Nebraska.
We arrived at North Platte, Nebraska, at about six o'clock. We had a full day of riding, with 460 miles broken up by five stops. An Italian buffet for dinner, the restaurant being recommended by a sweet young lady at the front desk of our hotel who thought Tom was the cat's meow.
