Personality: seems cold, but he's incredibly loyal.  He's a good team player and if a comrade is in danger Ryu will stop at nothing to ensure their safety.  He doesn't let anyone sway his personal beliefs and he knows Akasaru fakes weakness and puts Mondo in his place harshly when the situation calls for it.  At the same time, he doesn't get involved in fights among comrades that don't concern him personally.

Background: Ryu is the product of a secret experiment to clone Uchiha Itachi.  His father conducted the experiment while he was in the womb and his mother left his father during her pregnancy.  She was found by Sasuke and, recognising him as an Uchiha, she told him the situation.  The only name she gave was what she wanted her son to be called.  She died during childbirth and Sasuke took the baby to an orphanage in Konohagakure.

When he was old enough, Ryu joined the Ninja Academy.  His mother had a Kekkei Genkai which allowed her to travel through shadows and Ryu inherited this.  In the academy he discovered he was a Genjutsu type.  As a clone of Itachi, Ryu has the potential to awaken the Sharingan, but he doesn't know this yet.  However, Ryu's aim with shuriken or throwing kunai is appalling and so his best chances are with using close range combat.
