Background: At four years old, Hinata was almost kidnapped and her father killed the kidnapper.  It was revealed that the kidnapper was the Raikage and in retaliation the Cloud Village demanded Hiashi be handed over, dead, as payment.  Hiashi's twin brother opted to be sacrificed in his place, and Neji believed he'd been ordered to and resented the main branch of the family for that.  When Naruto changed Neji's heart, Neji became kinder towards Hinata once more.

Hinata was once rescued from bullies by Naruto and has admired him ever since, striving to be like him and falling in love with him along the way.

With her low confidence, Hinata's life as a shinobi has been hard and her own father sees little worth in her.  Her sensei and teammates remained by her though and Hinata continued to work hard.

In the fight against Pain, Hinata disobeyed Naruto's instructions to stay back and did her best to protect Naruto, confessing her feelings for him.
