Game Comments:
Niskayuna lost to visiting Ballston Spa, 0-2, today in the league opener for both teams. The Scotties played fast and hard, possessing well and then sending balls over the top and through the middle to force Niskayuna’s defense back throughout the first half. The Silver Warriors held fast until 4 minutes into the second half, when Ethan Thomas crossed to Colby Obrecht inside the six-yard box. Obrecht took advantage of a misplayed clearance and slipped the ball under home keeper Joey Romano. Niskayuna pressed to get back in the game, and came up with some half-chances, but 15 minutes after the first goal, Ballston Spa struck again. Connor DeFilippis played a long diagonal ball to Ethan Thomas on the left, and Thomas beat his mark and finished cleanly to round out the scoring. The visitors enjoyed an advantage in both possession and shots.

Niskayuna won at Mohonasen today, 5-0. Ben Wagoner started the scoring off after 14 minutes when he picked up the ball from a Chris Stroud header, cut to his right and shot into the roof of the net. Nine minutes later Noah Daviero fed a neat pass to Merjan Özisik on the left side, and Özisik skipped past his mark to slot the ball home. Three minutes into the second half, Alex Chan played a ball to Ryan Stewart on the right and Stewart cut in and finished far post. About halfway through the second period, David Moraga drew a penalty and put it away himself. Martino An completed the scoring 10 minutes from time on a breakaway off a pass from his twin brother Clemens. Dylan Sheely scored his first goal midway through the half, winning a long ball over the top and shooting off Columbia keeper Nick Nadareski. Sheely was first to the rebound and tucked it home. Niskayuna lost at Colonie today 0-1 in a physical game that was a back-and-forth battle. Colonie had the run of play through much of the first half, and with less than 11 minutes to go, Matteo Curto smoothly set up a perfectly positioned Aaron Muia for the only goal of the contest. The second half was more even, and although Colonie had an overall advantage in shots, corners and possession, Niskayuna pressed hard in the second period, creating several clear chances to tie the game. The visitors came away empty-handed, however, and Colonie earned its third victory of the season.

Six minutes into the second half, Alex Chan earned a free kick for the hosts, which Ronan Schreer scored, beating the wall and tucking the ball inside the post for the first goal. Three minutes later, Chan played Schreer through and Schreer calmly finished for his second goal of the day. Albany keeper Geoff Hillengas kept the Falcons in the game with 12 saves. Pat Sheehan played well for Niskayuna, along with Chan and Schreer.

Niskayuna beat visiting Averill Park today, 3-0. The host Silver Warriors got on the scoreboard inside the first 4 minutes when Ryan Stewart crossed into the box, Averill Park keeper Hunter Dupont parried, and Owen Goldstoff one-timed the rebound. The visitors threatened several times, once on a breakaway that Niskayuna keeper Joey Romano stifled, and twice with scoring chances that went just wide. Then, with less than 13 minutes to go in the first half, Merjan Özisik picked up the ball on the right side of midfield, looked up, and sent a cross right to Dylan Sheely’s chest. Sheely dropped the ball for Zach Ogden, who calmly finished with his left foot to give the hosts some breathing room at halftime. In the second half, Niskayuna looked more dangerous, but it wasn’t until 8 minutes from time that Ryan Stewart sealed the game for the home team, picking up the ball on the left, dribbling to the box and finishing to the opposite corner. Hunter Dupont played well in goal for Averill Park, and got help from tenacious Cameron Roberts, who made two saves on the goal line. Mateo Parzych, Dan Laurilliard, Owen Goldstoff and Merjan Özisik all played well for Niskayuna.
Game Comments:
Niskayuna visited Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake today in a game that marked the midpoint of the league season. The Silver Warriors controlled long periods of the first half, but couldn’t crack the Spartans’ defense, and the teams went to the break in a scoreless tie. Ten minutes into the second half, with Niskayuna pressuring again, Ryan Stewart hit the crossbar but the ball came back out. The hosts took advantage of the counter opportunity, passing the ball quickly forward until Cormac Carr found Glen Ramos, who cut back and finished to give BHBL the lead. Niskayuna continued to press Burnt Hills back, and with 10 minutes to go, Dan Laurilliard met Ben Wagoner’s free kick and headed it into the upper corner for the tying goal. Neither team could score the golden goal in overtime, so this hard-fought match ended 1-1. Ben Wagoner, Pat Sheehan and Dan Laurilliard played well for Niskayuna, and Cormac Carr, Alex Giglotti and Alex Glowa played well for BHBL.
Game Comments:
Niskayuna lost to visiting Guilderland today, 2-1, in double overtime. The visitors took the lead 10 minutes into the first half on a beautiful goal by Ben Coutrue. Coutrue picked up the ball 20 yards past midfield on the right, dribbled across to the left and shot under pressure back across goal to the upper right corner. But 3 minutes later Ronan Schreer headed in the tying goal from a Ben Wagoner free kick. Niskayuna controlled much of the play as the Dutchmen sat back and looked to counter. Niskayuna had twice as many shots, Guilderland had twice as many corners, but neither team could find another goal. With less than 90 seconds left in overtime, Guilderland’s Eddie Yu scored for the game winner. There was a dispute about the winning goal as keeper Joey Romano may have been fouled on a corner kick, but the official did not see it that way. Ben Wagoner, Patrick Sheehan, Noah Daviero and Dan Laurilliard played well for Niskayuna, as did Ben Coutrue, Tyler Landry and Eddie Yu for Guilderland.
Game Comments:
Nisky visited Bethlehem today in the rain in what turned out to be a very good game. There was no score until the 35th minute, when Bethlehem’s Kevin Piccolino’s shot was saved by Niskayuna goalkeeper Joe Romano, but the rebound bounced out to the left of the goal, and Luke Dole centered it back to Piccolino, who heel-kicked it in for the score. Just 4 minutes later, Bethlehem’s Eamonn Conway sent a pass to Luke Dole, who beat his defender to the left of the goal and sent a tough angle shot into the net for a 2-0 half-time lead. In the second half, Bethlehem made it 3-0 in the 50th minute when Nate Weinstock threaded a pass between two defenders to the waiting foot of Dole, who dribble twice and beat the goalie with a nice shot to the left corner of the goal. Niskayuna was not going to go quietly, however, with goals from Zach Ogden and Ronan Schreer in the 63rd and 73rd minutes. With the game now at 3-2, a free kick by Bethlehem’s Ben Licht to the waiting Luke Dole for a header completed the scoring in the 79th minute and the hat trick for Dole. Niskayuna’s Joe Romano had 7 saves. For Bethlehem, Nate Brands and Liam Dole each tallied two saves.

The match today between CBA and Niskayuna was a great match to watch. Both teams had opened the match with some good runs of passing and looked threatening to goal, however neither team truly got anything great on net. The halftime score was 0-0. Ten minutes into the second half, John McCane threw a long throw into the box and found Matt Crisafulli, back from injury, who then spun his defender and scored a goal that deflected off of Nisky goalie Joe Romano’s hands. Nisky poured on the pressure for the remainder of the half, but the back four of CBA anchored by John McCane and Dan Lenane, along with the midfield anchored by Chris Radliff, held strong and did not concede. The score finished at 1-0 in favor of CBA.
Game Comments:
Niskayuna lost at home to traditional soccer powerhouse Baldwinsville of Section 3 today, 1-0. Baldwinsville has often been the Section Three representative in regionals, so this was good competition for the Warriors. The Bees took the lead in the third minute of the game when Brandon Mimas capitalized on a deflected pass in Niskayuna’s backfield. Mimas collected the ball, took one dribble to set up his shot, and finished cleanly for the only goal of the contest. Both teams played hard all game, generating an even number of shots, saves, and corners. Niskayuna keeper Joey Romano came up big five times to keep the game close, and the Silver Warriors were dangerous on set plays and balls into the box, but couldn’t convert. Christian Fuller and Joshua Doback played well for Baldwinsville.

Game Comments:
CBA hosted Niskayuna today for the first round of the Sectionals. The CBA home environment was very evident as the fans made their presence known. The first 10 minutes was back and forth as both teams came out with lots of pressure. In the 14th minute, CBA broke the deadlock when Noah Keith served a free kick into the box and Matt Crisafulli headed it past Nisky goalie Joe Romano. Nisky stepped up the pressure with a few good chances to level the game, but the back four of CBA led by John McCane and also goalkeeper Joe Lauria stood strong and kept the score at 1-0 at halftime. The second half started just like the first half did, and quickly Nisky made some changes to step up their pressure. In the 59th minute, Noah Daviero found himself at the top of the box and put the ball past Joe Lauria to bring the score to 1-1. The game continued to be back and forth as both goalkeepers were keeping their teams in it. Then in the 68th minute Noah Keith found Matt Crisafulli again who was able to put the ball over the head of Joe Romano to make it 2-1 CBA. Nisky became desperate to tie the game, until Crisafulli found himself on a break to goal again and Chris Stroud had to grab him to keep him from having a great chance on goal. Stroud was red carded and Noah Keith scored the free kick to bring the final score to 3-1 in favor of CBA. Great games were also had by John McCane, Chris Radliff, Owen Greene, and Rob Amore for CBA and Daniel Laurilliard and Merjan Ozisik for Niskayuna.
