I have always wanted to visit the Land of the Rising Sun, so much so that I have learnt the Japanese language and culture for a couple of years. I even have the JLPT4 certificate but my language proficiency has degenerated to not remember the common phrases/sentences from the lack of use :(
It's great to have gone on this trip with my brothers and cousins, all seven of us! Now that we have much bonding, we don't have to say we just know each other from festive gatherings. We even got to visit their friends and shown the best local cuisine.
Before I jump into introducing the cities we had visited and stayed over, and write down my experience on the level of wheelchair accessibility for each place, let me put down a few general tips/notes on travelling in Japan.
For wheelchair users, take note that the aisles of older trains are not wide enough for mine and I had to take the nearest seat to an exit and exchanged my assigned seat with the owner. My cousin gave me the following note to show to the seat owner, which you may find it useful as well:
”すみませんが、身体障碍者ですから、座席を交換する、よろしいですか?”
"su mi ma sen ga, shin tai shou gai sha de su ka ra, za seki o kou kan su ru, yo ro shii de su ka?"
PS: If you are on a wheelchair and don't speak Japanese, I don't recommend you visit Japan alone. It is best you go with at least a friend who are able to push you up a train.
