USA Midtermelections 2010
Election text message spam was reported in several states during the midterm elections. Joe Sandler, counsel to Revolution Messaging, confirmed that text message abuses from the 2010 elections were already well documented in Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. An RCR editor can confirm text harassment in California also[1].

Technology convergence – the statistics
Using text messaging to get out the vote was proven when President Barak Obama successfully used the venue to keep in contact with potential voters.
In February 2008 John McCain attended fund raising events for his presidential campaign and raised $11 million. In the same period Barack Obama attended no such events. Instead his campaign team used social networks to raise $55 million in 29 days.

Mobile tech under Obama
What Obama's Text Message Campaign Reveals
Obama’s campaign is sophisticated about collecting and cross-referencing voter contacts and using this information to identify two especially important populations: new voters and persuadable voters.
By 2012, 3G will be the slow mobile broadband technology, and the better phones and wireless plans will be running at 4G speeds
Examples of things the campaign can now do with these phone numbers:
Conduct non-intrusive surveys (e.g. are you registered to vote yet? what zip code are you in?)
On a state-by-state basis, send reminder messages about the cutoff dates for voter registration and link to registration forms
On a state-by-state basis, tell people to mail in their ballots to vote absentee
Invite people to campaign events in their area code
Remind people to get out and vote on Election Day (believe it or not, some people forget, although you’d need to be hiding in a cave to miss this one)
Promote down-ballot candidates on a zipcode-by-zipcode basis
