Our mission
is social justice through social media.
We are using Web 2.0 to raise awareness about Slavery 2.0: modern day human rights abuses of migrant workers in the United Arab Emirates.
This wiki is both a teaching tool for the international advocacy community, as well as an online tool to reach migrant workers who need help.
The Migrant Workers Support Network - UAE is a new media platform for workers with internet access to:
join an online community
connect with each other and their families back home
provide access to important sources of help
obtain mobile phones and pre-paid calling cards
send texts for third parties to crowdsource abuses

Migrant workers comprise nearly 90% of the private sector workforce in the UAE. They largely come from the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. These migrant workers leave their native countries for economic prosperity and then face many different kinds of abuse.
We also want to put international pressure on the UAE to cease these human rights abuses. This site contains information for the international community - advocacy groups, businesses, students, funders, governments, etc. - about this modern day slavery. There is a good deal of attention on the web already about this matter, but we want there to be more.
We hope we can help bring awareness of this issue and shift the paradigm of abuse.
