"One camp of 200 men today authorized for lake." The foregoing in the form of a telegram from Congressman W. P. Lambertson and addressed Tuesday afternoon to August Kramer, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, has caused Seneca lake park workers to believe the greatest of Nemaha county improvements is in the bag. The happy culmination of a year's campaign to give this county a state lake and park followed closely upon the arrival of a surveying party of the Wilson Engineering Co., Salina, Commissioned by the Forestry, Fish and Game commission to make a survey and work plans for Kampler dam and spillway. Murray Wilson, head of the firm and consulting engineer for the commission, came yesterday to go over the site with a view to collaboration with O. J. for the Kansas highway department. The County has been placed in a position to acquire the acreage by right of eminent domain. The State has received a federal grant of funds for secondary roads and has pledged the commissioners sufficient funds with which to purchase materials for the dam and spillway, which in this case will serve the public as a road fill and bridge. The Forestry, Fish and Game Commission, working with the Highway department and the Civilian Conservation Corps service, will provide the work. In addition to a place of recreation for the 18,000 people of this county and the surrounding counties, the lake has possibilities of flood control for the Nemaha (river) and it's tributary streams.
