2024 Adjudication Report Mark 47 out of 80.
We are pleased to welcome the 10 hard working members of the Murroe tidy towns committee to the 2024 competition. We note from your entry form that you also have a number of volunteers who maintain their own residential areas. This is considered to be a very effective way of getting more residents involved in your projects and we encourage you to approach other community based groups such as sports clubs (the GAA, soccer, rugby, athletics), social clubs (men's shed, the active retired) and interest groups (historical societies, gardening clubs) and ask them if they would like to collaborate with your committee on projects of mutual interest. Well done on building up strong links with a range of organizations who are active in your area which includes Limerick City and County Council, Ballyhoura Enterprise, Pobal, Birdwatch Ireland, the Community Council and the Irish Wildlife Trust. We urge you to maintain these links in the years ahead as all of these organizations are important sources of funding, advice and other resources. It is also great to see that local businesses (such as the Credit Union) are supportive of your efforts as it serves as their acknowledgement of the great work that you do for your local area. Your communication strategy is very impressive and it is pleasing to see that you are using both traditional and digital mediums to keep everyone informed of your activities. We are delighted to read that your committee has developed two small nature plots in collaboration with the local primary school. Getting younger age groups actively involved in your projects is considered to be a particularly important part of the tidy towns competition - as it boosts local participation, fosters ownership of key projects and raises awareness of the importance of community engagement. We are heartened to read that your local school participates in the green schools programme as this should create numerous opportunities for joint projects under the landscaping, nature and biodiversity and sustainability categories. Thank you for your completed application form and map which were very helpful during adjudication. The map could be further improved by ensuring that all of the locations of projects are marked on it. The inclusion of responses to the points raised by the 2023 adjudicator is also appreciated. We would also like to thank you for your continued participation in the competition as your hard work has led to many improvements in Murroe over the last 40 years. We have also enjoyed visiting your lovely village during that time.
2023 Adjudication Report Mark 46 out of 80.
You are one of the few communities who share on their website the results of the annual adjudication report under the separate headings. It makes for very interesting reading to see your progression since 2017. This is a great resource for the community & a reminder to you all of the rewards of your hard work & how much you have achieved to date. A committee of 11 is a good size in order to get things done with general agreement. Although you do not specify the number of volunteers it is clear you have volunteers coming from local housing estates in addition to the GAA. Many a community will envy your access to Community Workers, an increasingly elusive assistance these days. They provide wonderful support for Tidy towns groups & make the weekly To Do Lists less daunting. Well done to you on organizing fund raising events. These are time consuming however it is great to see how well supported they are by both the community & local businesses. It takes time & resources to apply for funding from agencies so congratulations on securing Pobal funding. Your modes of communication are certainly wide reaching & active, the best combination.
The involvement of the younger generation is essential for momentum of action in the community. Their perspective on future plans is very helpful so it is fantastic one representative has been co-opted onto the committee. The involvement of the scouts in your work & your work with the National School are all excellent strategies. Your new hi viz safety vests will have you all appearing very well turned out

Fáilte Chuig Comórtas na mBailte Slachtmhara Super Valu 2022. Táimid buíoch daoibh as ucht na hiontrála a chur chugainn. Go raibh maith agaibh as ucht bhur dtacaíocht le linn na paindéime. Lean leis an dea-obair. Welcome to the 2022 SuperValu TidyTowns competition. Thank you for your entry and for your commitment to your place in these difficult times. Keep up the great work. You have a committee of 8 people and you hold a September meting and another in March and from then on have two evenings per week and individuals undertake specific tasks. Two community workers also deal with tasks year round and the GAA take care of the sports fields. Many public bodies and private business interests support your work as well as individuals. You have a website and also use several other forms of media for communications. The local scout group help with clean-up projects and planting flower boxes. Beavers and Cubs also do clean-ups and this year you made a 90 second film of them working – and won a prize. Well done on having a 5 year plan – it is a big document, so we suggest you extract from it a few pages of actions that will be much easier to remember. By that means you can take better ownership of the plan. Your special project is painting the Muintir na Tire Hall – the first one in Ireland. Murroe has been a participant in the competition for 40 years and the experience has been positive. Thank you for your very nice and detailed map which was very clear, and we liked the legend on the side. A small tip for the future, please arrange the project numbers to be much larger and in a sequence – it makes it easier for us to find a particular one. Your application was well presented.
2021 Adjudication Report Mark 44 out of 60
Fáilte chuig Comórtas na mBailte Slachtmhara Super Valu 2021. Táimid buíoch daoibh as ucht na hiontrála a chur chugainn. Go raibh maith agaibh as ucht bhur dtacaíocht le linn na paindéime. Lean leis an dea-obair. During Covid lockdowns individuals continued maintaining areas in the village and in order to brighten the streetscape you planted bedding in an area in front of the church which cheered many of the community who thanked you for your work. As you say ‘it’s nice to be thanked’. The Tidy Towns competition is very different this year as it’s a desk top evaluation with a virtual tour of your village. As we will not see the projects mentioned in your application, we have relied on the information which you have provided. Thank you for your entry form, map, photos (only a few unfortunately) and your Five-Year Tidy Towns Plan 2021-2025 prepared with assistance from LCCC and Ballyhoura Development. We see you say don’t have any social media presence. You say that an Internet or Social Media address in N/A ….. we disagree. In fact, when we searched, we found that you have a Facebook Page. However, we also advise that you open an Instagram account (for the younger members) … ask a young person to help if you don’t know how to set this up. With these two accounts you can post information regarding litter pick up dates and times, photos of nature, organised walks proposed, information about other community groups etc etc. It is an excellent way to let everyone know your news – young and old. You have been involved in Tidy Towns for almost forty years and have become more focused on the beauty of the village including the natural amenities through this involvement.

Cuireann an moltóir seo fáilte roimh Murroe (Maigh Rua) chuig comórtas Náisiúnta na mBailte Slachtmhara SuperValu 2019. Thank you for your entry form, map and photographs showing events etc. organised by you throughout the year. You also included your Murroe Tidy Towns Action Plan for 2019-2021 and we wish you well as you embark on this. We suggest that you review the Plan annually and only tick the boxes after the event has been carried out and not before. Your committee of eleven has the support of an additional eleven when jobs need to be done. We read that your members are involved in other community groups which will bring news of your activities to a greater number and we encourage and support this. You have the backing of a number of agencies and local businesses and your annual church gate collection is well supported by the community which pays tribute to your good work. Your involvement in the TidyTowns competition for over thirty five years has strengthened the community spirit in addition to adding to the beauty of your environment.
2018 Adjudication Report Mark 43 out of 60
I note you have a good size of 11 committee members, and plenty committee meetings are held to monitor progress and plan ahead. It is positive to have connections with the Community Council and the others listed. I read your new plan and you have ambitious intentions for the next few years. The botanical survey is an impressive result of many hours of study and research – well done.It is great to see you are getting enjoyment and benefits from The Going for Gold local competition. This is a good initiative put in place by Ballyhoura and the 20 hours a week will be of assistance to you. The local businesses are willing to assist your good work as they appreciate what you are doing. The local people are well informed of your plans and activities. The contacts with the school is a good investment and the composting by the scouts is a great way of getting the youth involved and prepare them for taking a positive role in later life.I like your remark “all working with pleasure to create a better place for all to reside in.”
2017 Adjudication Report Mark 42 out of 60
Thank you for your submission which included the entry form, your Action Plan, some supplementary material and your map which proved to be most helpful. You have now been involved for many years so it is great to read that to be sure our community has benefitted from that involvement. You are quite modest in your assessment of the contribution your group has been making to the betterment of Murroe and that is a likeable trait. It is good to read that the tiny steps of progress lead to a deeper sense of community and community pride. It is obvious that you are highly regarded among the business community and among the bodies that can make a difference to the quality of life of those who live in Murroe.
