Three new flower beds have been created between the Murroe Wood Park Carpark and what was Crokers Bar. All the weeds that were growing the beds were removed by hand , particuarly the perennial weeds such as docks and couch grass. The beds were the dug over again to add some of the leaf mold that we make from the leaf fall in winter. We then added well rotted horse manure and some purchased organic manure.
Designs for the beds were produced by John Scanlan of the Ballyhoura Development CLG. All the plants were picked from the All-Irealnd Pollinator Plan to ensure that they are of benefit to nature and will attract wild bees. All the plants are perennials or shurbs, so they will flower every year ensuring maintenance is easier. The beds have been mulched with bark mulch to reduce annuals weeds.
A grant was obtained from Popal to cover the costs of the plants and the all the other necessary accesories.
Members of Tidy Towns undertook all the work except for the splicing of the ropes which was completed for us by the Murroe Scouts.
